Sky is deeply involved in music education and has been a faculty member at The San Francisco School and the Adda Clevenger Junior Preparatory and Theatre School for children in San Francisco, as well as Plaza de la Raza in Los Angeles. She was also the teaching assistant under Dr. Rudich at the California Institute of the Arts. Sky's instruction conveys to her students a love for all musical styles. She endeavors to arm her students with the fundamentals while encouraging them to find their own musical path. Her teaching is infused with joy and exuberance, and her knowledge of both traditional and contemporary ways of playing the flute make her a versatile and adaptive teacher.
Sky uses the Rubank Method books to develop the foundation of excellent playing, but will search far and wide for the right music for each student. This may include trips to the music store, transcribing a favorite pop tune, or writing new individualized songs or exercises for her students. Sky is also a big believer in duets, especially for students whom do not participate in a band program. Not only are duets a way to develop the ear, but they are a fun and interactive way to better understand her students' technique and to assess their individual needs. No matter what aspect of her students' playing requires attention, Sky will find an efficient and interesting way to work on it. Her belief, first and foremost, is that flute lessons should be fun!
